Platypus

 



                             Platypus

  •  The platypus is one of the 3 egg laying mammals.
  • The platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal that lives in eastern Australia and Tasmania.
  •  It has a duck-bill, beaver-tail and otter-feet.
  • It is recognisable and iconic symbol of Australia; it has appeared as a mascot at national events and is featured on the reverse of the Australian 20 cent coin.
  • The platypus is badly effected by pollution.
  • Male platypuses are venomous.
  •  They locate their prey in part by detecting electric fields generated by muscular contractions.
  • The platypus's mating occurs between June and October.
